CEPAC VELODROME
OM and les Marseillaises standing alongside Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
On the occasion of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which begins today, Olympique de Marseille and Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC are joining forces to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer, with a number of initiatives taking place throughout the month of October.
One in eight women will face breast cancer during their lifetime. In France, nearly 61,000 new cases are diagnosed every year. Despite the progress made, breast cancer unfortunately remains one of the leading causes of mortality among women. Yet early screening can make all the difference: 9 out of 10 cancers can be cured if detected early.
Starting tonight, the CEPAC Vélodrome will be dressed in pink. For the first time, the stadium's ring will be lit up in pink every evening throughout October, from 8pm to 10pm. A way of making the CEPAC Vélodrome an even more visible landmark in the city and of extending the reach of the awareness message around breast cancer prevention and screening.
This commitment will continue on the pitch, with several events jointly organised by OM and Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC, including:
- On 4 October, OM women's team players and Academy players will take part in the Course Marseille en Rose, an event dedicated to raising awareness and fighting breast cancer. The following day, a delegation of Marseillaises, made up of players and staff members, will visit the Institut Paoli-Calmettes to meet with healthcare workers and patients.
- On 18 October, on the occasion of the Arkema Première Ligue fixture between OM and FC Fleury 91 in Martigues, several exclusive activations will bring the Pink October colours to the match. A CEPAC Octobre Rose Fan Zone and various activities will take place around the Stade Francis-Turcan, and a portion of the match ticket revenue will be donated to a healthcare institution committed to fighting breast cancer. Healthcare workers, patients and administrative staff from Marseille's healthcare institutions will also be invited to attend the match.
- The campaign will continue on 25 October, on the occasion of the Ligue 1 McDonald's Matchday 8 and the OM v Le Havre fixture: flags, the centre circle cover and other visual elements will serve as a reminder of the awareness message championed by OM and Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC.
Through these various initiatives, OM and Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC are putting their visibility and their audiences in service of a vital message: one of prevention, encouragement to get screened, and support for all those who work every day to fight breast cancer.
This campaign reflects the shared commitment of Olympique de Marseille and Caisse d'Epargne CEPAC to make football a vehicle for awareness, togetherness and solidarity at the heart of the Marseille community.
