Julie Thibaud joins Les Marseillaises
Olympique de Marseille is delighted to announce the arrival of Julie Thibaud to its women's team, joining from Leicester City.
Born in Niort, the 28-year-old central defender began her career at AS Échiré Saint-Gelais before joining ASJ Soyaux at the age of 15. She quickly discovered the highest level of French football, making her first-division debut during the 2014-2015 season. In 2017, she joined Girondins de Bordeaux, where she gradually established herself as a key player in the Bordeaux backline. With the Girondines, she gained solid experience in the French championship, making 88 league appearances.
After six seasons in Bordeaux, the Niort native decided in 2023 to embark on her first experience abroad, joining Leicester City. She then discovered the Women's Super League, the pinnacle of English football, where she quickly established herself in the Foxes' defence, making 58 league appearances across three seasons.
Her journey also saw her represent the French national team from the youth categories, winning the U19 European Championship in 2016, before going on to earn her place in the senior France squad a few years later.
Combative and dominant in duels, Julie Thibaud also possesses excellent distribution and real technical quality, making her a perfect fit for Nicolas Chabot's style of play.
